The United Nations Women marked this year’s international women’s day with the theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” This theme reflects the outcomes of the great work we do at The Sarina Project to Reclaim, Retrain and Relaunch our jewels into the society as responsible citizens, contributing their quota towards socioeconomic development.
We believe that every woman regardless of their past, present or background, has the capacity to fulfill potential when provided with the necessary resources. It is important to note that to “invest in women” in this context transcends financial empowerment. This does not in any way suggest that financial empowerment should not be prioritised rather, it encourages relevant stakeholders to embrace a holistic approach in investing in women.
For us at The Sarina Project, to invest in women means providing active platforms that champion advocacies for women’s rights; enacting and monitoring the implementation of gender responsive policies and laws; providing safe spaces for victims of all forms of abuse; hosting intergenerational dialogues to share lessons, recommendations and chart the course for a more prosperous future.
To “invest in women” is also integrating the 21st century skills- Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication as well as Competence, in the Education curriculum to ensure they are equipped to compete favourably with their peers on the global stage.
Women who have disabilities and women who are vulnerable due to conflicts should not be left behind.
Investing in women should not be treated as a mere policy option but the obligation of governments everywhere.
As an organization, we are committed to consistently investing in the lives of the women our mission seeks to serve. We are proud of our jewels who have been transformed psychologically, financially, spiritually and otherwise. Their progress is what keeps us going.
Happy International Women’s Day!
